Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
Thank You Brothers!
The new XR750 style tail I ordered is here so I started to design and build the mounts for it, I am going to angle the tank and tail more so that the bottom lines of them match better however I thought I would share a photo of how she looks this evening!
I have a really nice gold 530 o-ring chain that I have been saving for this build so I ordered a new 44 tooth gear to go with it!

Yes the chain I will be using retails for almost $400 however we removed this one from a good friends B-King when we extended his bike and he gave it to me for my build, I could never spend that much money on a chain!

Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
I have never seen a chain that did not stretch Brother however this chain should last a long time!
I built a steel plate to mount the tail section to the frame, on the front I welded a mount so I could bolt the tail on where the original rear tank mount was and for the rear mounts I drilled through the steel plate and welded in two studs that will also bolt to the frame. After I finished building the steel plate I ran one screw through the front of the tail section to hold it to the plate and filled the space between the tail and the steel mounting plate with spray in expandable foam.
I was originally going to bolt number plates to the side of the tail section however I decided to take the time to build them out of fiberglass and then glass them to the tail so that the tail section and number plates will all be one piece. I started by cutting a pattern out of cardboard so that I could see what the number plates would look like on the bike and after I changed the pattern a few times to get the look I wanted I covered the cardboard in tape so that I could use it to lay the fiberglass on. I laid one thin sheet of fiberglass so that it would still be flexible while I mounted it to the tail section, once I build both number plates and get them mounted I will add additional layers of fiberglass to finish fastening the tail to the steel mounting plate and to make the number plates thicker and stronger.
The new gear that my Beautiful Wife got me for my Birthday also arrived so I can mount it next!
I still have a lot of work to do however I started to mount the first thin sheet of fiberglass I made to the right side of the tail so I thought I would share a few photos with you all!

Today I bolted the new 44 tooth gear on the rear wheel and installed the 530 0-ring chain to check for clearance and everything looks good! I also made the other number plate for this side of the bike so I should have it mounted to the body soon!

Thank You Brother, it is a RK Brand chain that was on a B-King however I may have to change it to a standard gold chain as it is close to my clutch cable behind the sprocket cover.
Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
As always I am very rarely able to work on my own personal projects because we stay so busy here at the shop however I have been able to make some time to work on my CB450 flat track race bike recently! I made the left number panel and attached it to the tail section and I also added a section to the front of the tail to cover the rear of the fuel tank. Today I started building a battery tray and welded it to the frame so that I can mount the battery underneath of the tail section however I still need to finish the final bracing for it. After I built the battery tray I removed the swingarm from the frame and cut the factory mounts for the rear pegs off of the frame as well! It will not be long and I will be able to break her down for final paint and assembly!
