DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!

I have been considering the purchase of one of my favorite vintage Hondas, the DOHC CB450, for a while now and actually found one at a reasonable price that needed some work but I did not buy it...then Brother Biggerjim came by with this beautiful one and offered it to me at a great deal! Brother Biggerjim I can not thank you enough for this bike, you truly are a generous Brother!

I started by washing her and cleaning the chrome, then I removed the tank and side covers to prepare them for paint.

The CB450 is known for being hard on the valvetrain and it takes 45 seconds for the oil to reach the intake rockers after the engine is started. The clearance tolerances are also very close, even by todays standards, so running heavy oil in the CB450 will also slow down circulation and can do damage as well.

I removed the right side cam bearings to inspect for wear. The cam bearings look very good so I am polishing the outsides of them and replacing the gaskets and o-rings on the rocker shafts. I also removed the front exhaust cam cover to inspect the cam, rocker arms, rocker arm shafts, and torsion bars.

I decided that I wanted to add some color to the front rim so I painted the center of the front brake rotor and the speedometer drive cover gold. I also polished all of the bolts while I had it apart for paint.

I started polishing the right side cam bearing housings as well as the exhaust cam cover on the front of the cylinder head, I also replaced all of the screws for these covers with stainless steel ones.

I started polishing the rear brake plate, this photo was taken in the shade with no flash so that you could see the reflections in the aluminum.



I also polished the points cover on the cylinder head.

I removed the engine covers a couple days ago for cleaning and to inspect the engines internal components, I had originally planned on sanding and polishing them while I had them off but I decided to paint them instead to add more color to the engine. I also removed the starter from the engine for paint, cleaning, and inspection.
