Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
I removed the front end to replace the factory style ball bearings with new tapered style bearings and to replace the fork seals. I also started to cut the tabs off of the frame in the seat area and removed the rear hoop on the frame so that I can build the new tail section.
I also cleaned and painted the triple trees while I had them off.

yet another impressive project by joeyp
Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
Thank you Brothers! I have been having a hard time trying to decide which way I want to build this motorcycle!
As I am almost done with the engine work and have most of the parts that I need here already I want to finish this bike and then start spending more time working on the reverse port over the winter.

Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
I can't wait to see the finnished project, I want a bike to rebuild really bad, just not alot of money
Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
I understand Brother mobilestromrider, I am building this motorcycle with parts that I already have so it will be a very low budget build!
After the paint cured I installed the triple trees with the new bearings, the fork tubes with new seals, and the front wheel back on to the motorcycle.
I removed the black paint from the handlebar clamps and installed them with a set of drag bars as I will be leaving the footpegs in their factory location.

I have not had a lot of time to work on my personal projects however I did start to build the all steel tail section for my CB450. I welded the rear tank bracket to the front of the seat so it bolts to the frame at the front and welded studs in the seat pan at the rear of the seat so it bolts to the frame at the rear as well. I also designed the tail to have rubber mounts around the rear studs between the seat pan and frame to help with vibration.
I still have a lot of finish work to do but here is how the tail section looks on the motorcycle.

Dude, I figured out my mess, Seems it fell over means it was laying on the ground for hours to my wife. Cooked the battery, I cleaned a lot of inside things fixed old damage, put on cruising lights for her and tires. Thanks anyway. I just had to trouble shoot my wife to find the real problem. Awesome work dude, always amazing to check out your photos and projects.

Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
Brothers and Sisters I apologize for not being around as much as usual work has just been very busy in the shop so I have not been able to get a lot of work done on my personal motorcycles however I have done a few things to the CB450.
I ordered this headlight which has a bottom mount so I can keep the front end really clean!
The original plan was to either polish or blast the fork lowers however I decided to go with a silver finish instead so I painted them, I had also planned on not running a front fender but I mounted this chrome fender which I thought would help keep the nice classic look I want for this bike.
I built a headlight bracket that bolts to the lower triple tree and mounted the new headlight on the CB450, I also lengthened the throttle cable by shortening the casing so I could mount a Honda XR throttle control which is smaller and a lot cleaner looking than the stock control and fitted a nice pair of gold and black grips!
As I am not going to run the factory emblems I filed, filled, and smoothed the sides of the gas tank and I also filled and smoothed the two top holes on each side cover.
We also decided to paint the bodywork forest green pearl so after I primed and wet sanded the tank and side covers I sprayed the green basecoat. I am waiting to clearcoat the tank and side covers as I am having new gold and red DWMS Racing decals made and want to clearcoat over them. I am also going to paint the all steel tail section green as soon as I finish building it.
I had the gold and red tank decals cut and applied them to the tank to see what they would look like.
I was also considering having my other logo with the crown, checkered flags, number seven, etc. cut for the side of the tank in gold and red as it may have looked a little classier however now I think I may have it cut to the proper size for the top of the tail section so it will be in the same place that I woodburned it into the reverse ports tail section.
I decided to give the vinyl DWMS Racing decals I had cut for the CB450 tank emblems a hammered look, it took me a few extra hours of work however I love the way they came out!
I still have some polishing I want to do however this is how the hammered DWMS Racing emblems look with clear, it was really hard to get a good photo of the emblems as the clear is so bright so this one was taken in the shade with no flash.

Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
I had originally planned on running mufflers on this bike however I decided I wanted her a little louder so I built a set of drag pipes for her! I really think the small drag pipes fit the classic look I am trying to keep, what do you all think?
Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
Joey. That is awesome. I like the look of the pipes. Maybe a little long for me. But it still looks great.

Re: DWMS Racing CB450 Shop Flat Track Race Bike! New XR750 Style Tail!
Thank You all for the compliments Brothers, as always they mean more to me than you know!
I have not had a lot of time to work on my personal projects as I have been very busy with work in the shop however I have been working on my CB450 recently!
I decided that I wanted to build a vintage flat track race bike for the shop so I am making a lot of changes to this build, I started by removing the front brakes, side covers, etc.
I ordered this really nice fiberglass XR750 style tail section with an upholstered seat and a new pair of alloy Ramshox!
I decided to go with longer 350mm shocks so that I would have more tire clearance, I also wanted shocks with eye / eye mounts so I modified the swingarm mounts and test fit the shocks. After I mounted the shocks I set the preload and with the 100lb springs we used the shocks feel perfect!
Here is a photo of how the shocks look on the bike!
