Oh yeah. You know it's a special project when it begins to dominate your life!

I understand the theory around savaging and tuned header lengths to some degree, but I am just happy when a motor still runs after I take it apart and put it back together! Everything else is just gravy.
How did you get that head so clean Joey?

Brother Weirdbeard it was actually pretty clean when I took it off but I cleaned the rest just by scrubbing with soap and water, I really do not like to use too many chemicals. I think part of the reason most of it cleaned up so easy is because I filled the cylinders with oil for storage so it has been soaking for a long time! The pistons looked really dirty on top when I took the head off but it was from all the oil.

Brother Biggerjim the red that was on the pipe I used to build the header really grew on me after seeing the header sitting on the engine so I was thinking about coating the header and mid pipe in the red to give it that hot rod look and make it stand out but now that I have sanded the header down it would look really nice chrome too! To many decisions! Hahahaha! Most likely I will go with the red.
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!
We made a final carburetor decision today! I have been having a really hard time deciding on what carburetors I wanted to run. My Dad has been telling me about these Nikki carburetors for awhile and I have really been wanting to look at a set, well he came by today bearing gifts! These carburetors are perfect and are everything I had hoped for and more!
We are going to run dual carburetors, one on each side of the engine with dual velocity stacks on each one! The carburetors are a single body with dual throats and butterflies, and a single choke and bowl.
The carburetors are similar to webers except they are a lot cleaner looking and a little smaller which makes them the perfect size for the 550!
The bowl is off in these photos.

Brother Biggerjim I am happy that you like the carburetors! I really have to Thank my Dad for the carburetors as they were his idea!
I am still undecided on the tank, you know I change my mind several times a day! Hahahaha!

Before I started building the intake manifolds today I removed all of the exhaust studs, I was worried about snapping one or pulling the threads as they are over thirty years old but they all came out clean in true Honda fashion! I have been working on Honda engines for most of my life and am still impressed daily with the quality of their parts and design!
Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!
I agree, but i wish they would have over built their engines, so that they would handle more power, using the stock components, say like suzuki did with the gs1100 engines,,, but your right nothing like a honda for FIT AND FINISH,,,,

Brother Biggerjim I know you love the Suzukis for race engines!
I did not have a lot of time to work on the 550 today but I did start building one of the intake manifolds.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!
Here are a few photos of the first intake manifold I built, it proved to be a true test in patience as the ports are facing away from each other. As I wanted a one piece intake I had to design it so that it was able to be installed into and removed from the ports while keeping the proper angles and providing clearance for the inside two bolts, it sounds easy enough however it was very time consuming to design and build.
I still need to do a little welding and smoothing to make the intake look real nice before I paint it burnt copper. The bowl is not on the carburetor in these photos.

Re: DWMS RACING CB550F SUPER REVERSE PORT! NEW PHOTO!
Thank You all for the compliments Brothers, I am very happy that you like the fuel system setup!
I am going with one large velocity stack on each carburetor instead of running two small ones on each. Brother Biggerjim gave me these very nice stacks! Brother Deviant also offered me some if I needed them, thank you all for your support and help!
I still need to build a plate for the front of the carburetor to mount the stack to but here is what it will look like.

Brother Biggerjim I would like to thank you again for the velocity stacks, and the other parts! I really like that one big velocity stack on the front!

I am truly amazed at your form/function abilities. Usually I can get one or the other to go well, hardly ever both.

I got my rims! The front rim is 4.25x17 with a 120 tire and the rear is a 7x17 with a 190 tire!
It was dark when I took these photos so I will take some more tomorrow in the daylight but here is what they look like.
The front rim.
