Just thought I would drop a line and let everyone know I have not been slacking, rather I have been very busy around the shop and have not had too much time to play with my own stuff...I did start engraving the stator cover, just have not had time to finish it up!

Yeah that damn work gets in the way of creativity.

Brother Dragon, are you wanting to have your headlight glass engraved...? or are you wanting to use that design on something else...? I should be able to cut that no problem and actually just found a smaller bit for much finer engraving and more detailed work! What are you thinking about putting it on?

Hey Dragon, that is actually glass etching and not engraving. I have the capibility to do that if your interested. I think the design that is on the one in the link is a little too much etch as it tends to grab the light and not alow it to project as well as clear, but an outline or a reverse pattern would work better.

I am not tring to take work from Joey, or compete here, I am only offering my service if it is desired.

Actually from looking at the pic it almost looks photoshopped or paint on, as I also have not seen a design that deep before.Note the clear design, yet blurry headlight. Anyway, am kickin an idea around to have Bellas done, since I cant afford the headlight I really want.

Nope, not mine, I do not have an ebay store nor do I really sell any products other than some of my graphic work, but I noticed his store name too. I have done this a few times on glass and on polished aluminum. I just have the right materials and tools for masking and access to a blaster with the correct media. I will be glad to do it for you, just let me know.

Will be a little while before I can save some pennies for the costs, but I am definitely interested.

Found the gas tank I want to use on the 550 I think! Biggerjim gave me an awesome Honda book and I have fell in love with the gas tank on the 1968 cb450k1...it has chrome sides with inset rubber knee pads and a round Honda emblem at the front of the chrome sides! A really classic looking tank! Now if I can just find one that I won't have to refinance the house to get!

Hey Joey, that same tank and many similar to it came on a number of honda's around that time. Use the term "toster tank" for ebay searches and it should yeld you some luck. I know they came on the 68 Dream (all cc's), the CB450's, some CL/CB 350's, and a couple of other bikes in 68. A good clean one can run you up to $150 fair price, but I have found some in a condition that is easily fixable go for around $50-70.

Thanks Twisted I will search with the "toaster" and see what I can find! I tried cb450k1 but nothing came up...The Dream tanks are similar to what I want but are different from the 450's tank which is a similar shape to my original 550 tank with the dream style side "toaster" panels.

Twisted I searched ebay high and low...did not see one...I guess a treasure hunt is on! It will be more fun that way anyway! If anyone happens to see on please let me know! '68 honda cb450k1 gas tank is what I am looking for! the k1 has the chrome side panels with the rubber knee inserts.

OK lets get back to talking bikes! I did a little more engraving and started the stator cover but I cut the "550" larger than I wanted so I may hang this one on the wall and start over but here is a photo of it anyway...

I know there has been a lot of drama here over the past couple of days, but seriously, lets get back to building some bikes, doing smokey burnouts (at the racetrack of course), and enjoying our time here togethor!

Of course it's your call, but the width of the 550 looks good. It stands out in a positive since too me. It does not look like a mistake.

Thanks Hayweed, You are too cool man! I am just too pickey about my own work sometimes...it looks worse in the pic than it actually is because of the way the light caught it but I will play with it some more while I decide on whether or not to use it!

You mean on the head...I think I am just going to polish them, I had to sand them down flat like that as they were pointed on the edges and whenever I can get a little free time to do it I am going to sand down all of these covers I have been engraving on and polish them to a mirror finish so I thought maybe the fins edges polished would be a good match.

Looks good to me Joe, I like and I think it looks more like the badge on the original bike. Cool as always brother!
