Fellow PGR Members,
It is time again to honor our HEROES OF YESTERYEAR. The residents of William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette always look forward to our visits. We brighten their days when we show up. The sound of the motorcycles, the warm smiling faces, all mean so much to our veterans. Many of the 149 residents have no family to come visit them - we are their family. A lot of the veterans would love to share their service experiences with you. Even just a few minutes spent with these HEROES provides a lift to their spirits that can not be measured. Whether you spend time helping with bingo, visit the veterans in their rooms, or sing songs for them, it is time well spent. These HEROES stood for us in WW II, Korea, Vietnam, and other conflicts. Lets honor them.
Mark your calendars for Saturday 16 June 2012.

What does one need to volunteer? I tried looking on the website, but it is a bit archaic and can't seem to find any info. Do you need to mount flags, or have specific setup for the flag-line?

Patriot Guard Missions Empty It takes Heart

Post by beachbum_ Sun Jun 17, 2012 12:09 am

Well because of all the vets that came before me and after me I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get called to "nam.
My only blood brother spent about fourteen months there in 68 or so, He stayed two extra months because they said he had Malaria or something but in the real world him and a few others had a agent orange shower. When he got back he told my dad (served in germany at the end of the war there) and me that no way he would allow me to go. just when my lottery number came up ol tricky dickie stopped the travesty there. So no im not a veteran but i am one that was damn proud of our guys going there and even though i was a free wheelin hippie i damn sure wasn't no damn flag burner. Buried my parents and brother january 04 after loosing all three in 18 days parents from heart break having to watch my brother slowly dying from the after affects of nam (liver cancer ) he did finally get his benefits from uncle sam 5 years before his health went down and he fought like a real soldier enduring liver transplant and all that went with it. He turned 57 the day our dad passed and seventeen days later my mom and him died 8 hours apart. Both parents said when he was first diagnosed terminal they couldn't handle him passing before them ...
Wait im so sorry for babbling about myself when there is so many still suffering from there own tragedy.

not sure how they handle funeral processions in alabama but here they all have police escorts and try to enforce everyone to show respect by stopping when it passes and not long ago someone actually gestured at me because i stopped and stepped off my bike while it passed by and i suppose they had more important things to do with that one minute of there life. Maybe they was one of the flag burners ? that has cost so many families grief fighting for their right to be assholes.

To All Veterans and families here LUMI beachbum_

If no one told you today thanks for serving THANKS
