fastest bike ever made.
Well to me it was the fastest bike ever made. Woke up on christmas morning when I was 8 years old and found my christmas present setting outside. My first bike. 1980 yamaha MX 80. the adventires I had. We lived on a farm in Oklahoma with more fields adn country roads than my imagination could want. Well i grew out of the old yamaha adn eventually gave it to a younger friend who needed a bike with the promise I would get it back when he outgrew it. Well it went thru 3 other kids and eventually found its way back to me this year the day after christmas. My Mom chased it down a few years back adn had it stored for me. She gave it back to me almost dead on 30 years from the date I got it origionally. Now time to put it back to origional. I know i will spend more then its worth, but I really dont care. Kinda cool to have the first motorcycle I ever owned back in my posession.
More to follow as I progress.

Considering how old the bike is and how many hands it's passed thru, it actually looks pretty darned good. Sentimental value....a priceless thing for sure. Congrats on getting it back.

I sent teh XS 650 away. Decided I had too many other projects going right now. Guy that got it is turning it into "another xs 650 bobber" been done to death. But anyway I have this one adn a 4 wheeler in the shop now. I have 3 others that arent mine awaiting parts. Too many irons in the fire.

looks like points and condensor and it will run. I found out why it had really low compressoin, The head was loose. Rings look great and so does the cylinder. Going to get it running before I do a complete rebuild. Need to sort out some electrical .
Oh the memories on the mx80. I actually have a fingernail that doesnt grow right because I crushed it changing the chian and sprokets on this bike. Alot of history with this one.

I'm excited for ya! Points and condenser is nothing. The electrical, well...that could be a bit trickier and I will wish you all luck with that for sure.

Came apart easily. Only one bolt broke. Its a seat pan bolt. just for grins I put air in the tires, They still hold air. Its in pieces now waiting for sandblasting and powder coating.

Killer project man. I hate to hear about the xs. But this is a bike that you'll keep forever. And it is in pretty good shape. The exhaust guard and shocks look to be in good shape. Alot of these bikes that you find are missing the cosmetic stuff altogether. And you don't see very many of these running around anymore. It 's going to be a very nice piece when it's done.

Progress today ( Finally)
powder coateing oven at work is broken, Probally be several months before it gets fixed so I went ahead and painted the frome and upper triple tree clamp. Points adn condensor came in yesterday so I can start assembling the motor soon. progress is always good.
