You should have come to my big tool yard sale.. I let my old one go for $8. Worked perfectly.. I would have given it to you if I had known you wanted one.

These are very nice. And built for polishing. Look for a coupon online. You can get them for a decent price.

Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
Hey weirdbeard I know you said you would never polish another blower/supercharger again...can we please add corvette saw blade rims to that list! I am going on 40 hours per rim sand/polish time as they were a heavy cast finish...been going 12 hours a day everyday this week sanding...I think one more day like that and they will finally be done! Man I was starting to think I would never see the end of these!!!
Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
Find someone with a bead blaster box and try it out. Might make a world of difference, Joey.
Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
H AH!! I feel ya.. I had to start with 80 grit on that 6-71.. It ruined me on polishing. I bet your wheels will turn out a lot nicer than my blower did though..
Heres what I started with.
Stripped the paint and grime off.
Heres where I quit.. Not perfect, but I quit!

Man yeah all those nooks and crannies and corners I bet that blower was a serious job to sand down! looks good though, what do you have that on man! I started with 80 grit on the rims too and went all the way down to 600.
You know I used to have a big bead blasting cabinet and I never even thought about that dragon, I bet it would knock a lot of the mountainous sharp casting off quickly!

The blower is on the fridge. It never made it on my old 67 Camaro..and I can't figure out how to mount it on my sporty.
You gonna show us your vette wheels?.

Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
That must be one bad cold azz fridge! hehe 67 camaro is one sweet ride too! I think you looked at the first vette rim I had almost done the other day when we talked but I will throw up a pic of it and tomorrow in the daylight I wil take a pic of the 4 togethor and post it if you want to see them...had to take this pic in the shade as they are too bright to get a good photo of when I put it in the sun...This is only about half polished...will add pics below of finish rims!
They belong to a friend of mine, that is the sad part...you put all that work into them and then have to watch them leave...

Thanks man but honestly it is too much work if you ask me!
Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
That is sweet. Can't wait till you do mine. It won't be too long now. Another month or so and I will pull mine off the bike and send them to you.

Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
OK here are the finish rims...FINALLY!
Here is a shot of mid way through sanding them...you can see how rough the casting was on the front fan...the whole rim was that rough...after removing 3 coats of paint/primer
grass reflection in the middle flat...
I know thry are not bike rims...they are for a vette...but I know some of us are hot rodders as well and though you might like to see them

The more y'all talk, the more I an convinced that I need to buy myself a stainless steel welding rig along with a plasma torch. To hell with polishing.

Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
It was one of those buddy deals for an old friend so it wasn't much but when you work for yourself every little bit helps! I did them mostly in my spare time until this week, I am just happy they are done so I can get back to working on the 550 in my spare time!

Draconis it is not that bad you just have to know going in that it is going to take time and sand it like a marathon...slow and steady!
Thanks zombie!
Hayweed I am ready when you are brother! And discount what I told you back when I first joined as I will for all samcs members! I do not want everyone to think I am here just to advertise or anything as I thoroughly enjoy my time here and this is the only forum that I use!

Re: Built a little rim polishing wood rack today
I actually polish 90% of what comes through here by hand and wheel the rest and that is a great deal that Hayweed posted up for anyone looking for a polisher! We have some harbor freight power tools and they work flawlessly! Actually my buddy does paint work and he says the harbor freight air tools he uses outperform their mac stuff...
