The firing issue may clear up once you get it cleaned up a little. Not alot of things to deal with on the old ones. Fairly easy to work on.

And congrats on the find.

ohhhh.... electronic ignition you say??? One of the best mods for the money on these older bikes. I'll end up going that way on the Honda when I get the money together tp buy the kit and the coils.

Please check for the electronic ignition, I am searching for one right now.I would gladly pay fora price for it. I really never liked point, Just a preference thing I guess, When the old farm vehicles we had died, i would rip out the old points condenser ignition adn replace it with a HEI distribuitor. I have my firing issue ran down to points adn conderser at this time. I have a very weak spark on one side and intermittant spark on the other, Points look to be pretty toasted. Cleaning the carbs tonight.

Well there's your problem.

Sold the bike. Project cancelled. Carbs001

Got it to fire on both cylinders by cleaning and settign the point, Ripped out the rusted fuse block adn made the redneck temp version. Spade connectors and flat fuses. Fed it fuel manually and it ran OK considering these are the carbs that were on it. No off to order carb kits and disassembly for cleaning.

A little lemon juise and some hot water, along with some ot thet TLC in tear down and rebuild, and those carbs will be ready to go! You will ne the dyna cdi kit for a yamaha twin....they are all the same from the little look I just did. Also make sure you use the Dyna 5 ohm coils and not the 3 ohm. The three ohm works great with the points, but if you go cdi, the stock charging system is to week for the 3 ohm coils.....plus with the cdi....5 ohms still works better than the 3 ohm without cdi. Also step up the heat on your plugs once the ignition system is in...you will see a whole new bike! And as you already know, like we talked about.....advance it and you will wake up several more ponies from that twin! Glad you found one of these oldies to make a cafe from...welcome to the rockers! If you need a hand feel free to give me call or send me a message anytime....I like getting greasy and cutting on old steel, so if you need an extra set of hand I will be happy to help.

Yep. Lemon juice. Learned it from dotheton.com.
Another good thing is to set up a soda blaster. Use a sandblast gun, but instead of sand or other media, use baking soda. It's water soluable and it will clean the hell out of the carbies.
BTW those are pretty nasty!

Did you use the lemone juice trick, if so, what do you think? I have had good luck with it and will be using it again on the 350 when the float seats come in. Also, did you use some muriatic acid on the brass bits?

I tried the lemon trick. it seemed to work OK. But I took them in to work and used paint thinner to remove all the varnish then normal spray carb cleaner to clean all the passages.
