Bike is dead!!
K my bike died the other day. Tryed to jump it off with a bigass diesel. Something happend but it wasnt startin. None of my lights turn on when i turn the key. I'm wondering if it's the voltage regulator or what. I've checked everyfuse on the bike. Anyone have any ideas of what coulda happend? Thanks guys

Re: Bike is dead!!
Too much voltage/amps. You popped something. Voltage goes from battery to ignition to lights. Regulator charges/maintains the battery. There is a fuse around the starter relay. Check it also. From there I would check for power at the key switch. If there is no voltage at the switch you will have to trace down the power lead. A shop manual will be very helpful. You will proly need a wiring diagram.

Re: Bike is dead!!
It has happened to me twice so far. Up in Sturgis and the wifes VTX started running really bad, cutting out, not starting, etc. I was in a panic....managed to get it to a dealer...told him what it was doing and he tells me he can fix it and charge me or I could just fix it myself......I go...huh????!!!!
He tells me to check the batter connections...sure enough...they were loose....tightened them both up...and bam......all was fine!
Happened later again on my HD...I was ready for it that time.

It happened to me on my old intruder.. Had me scratching my head for a while. Happened to Misfit the last time we rode.

Checked the fuse under the starter relay. I have no lights on my bars when i turn the key. I'm gonna check the ignition in the morn. I tested my battery it shows 12v is that too low?

Just FYI, if you use a car/truck to jump a bike, then leave the keys to said car/truck in the house. It will not hurt anything as long as you do not turn the key on the car/truck.

Its always better to use a charger instead of jumping off.. Car or bike, it puts a lot of strain on the charging system.

Well turns out i checked the wrong fuse for the main. turns out theres a little spot for a spare right with the main fuse. that was blown. Changed it lights come on now. Bike will run wile connected to the jumps but after i unplug it dies after afew secs. Stator? Is that gonna be my next part? lol cause thats what im thinking it is now.

Re: Bike is dead!!
You need to charge the battery. You need a full charge to check the system. It's not likely to be a bad stator. Once the battery has a full charge you will need to see how much voltage it has at 3000 rpm. 13.5-14.7 is what you want. Any higher or lower will be a problem. I would look at the regulator/rectifier first. The stator will be the last resort. They very seldom go bad.
