cb350 project Empty cb350 project

Post by Guest Sun Dec 26, 2010 1:47 am

hey guys im been dormant for awhile but I want to further my cb350 project, before school starts again . I bought the bike about two years ago and it has never been in good running shape. Right now my biggest problem is that it was never ran right. when i first got it , it would run for 50feet the a mile then die . i bought it to a mechanic friend i used to work with he adjusted the points and messed with the carbs . when i tried to drive it home it did well for 3 miles and then stared to die. its been about a year and a half the thing will run really good but as soon as you put it in gear it dies or runs and then cuts out after a short distance .

I wondering where to start in figuring this out . clutch , gears , i have no idea. thanks for any input

cb350's didn't come with cdi. Nowadays it's a common performance upgrade but if your mechanic adjusted the points then your bike uses a points ignition. Sounds like carb issues. Is the bike running the stock airbox?
Also is this a 350 twin or four cylinder?

I'll bet ya a dollar that the carbs are improperly jetted. So I see rearsets, adjustable clipons, avon roadriders (my last set of tires!) and the tank is 1968-69, also those aren't the stock shocks are they? A nice cafe project indeed. I'm also seeing that the points housing is empty so your bike is running cdi?
The rear tire being locked up could be a bigger problem.
I sold a 68 cb350 a while back... I'd love to get it back!

i have no idea what it is worth it has nice goodies . im not sure i have the knowledge to finish it . i've been thinking that if i give up on her i might part her off.

it has tommaselli clip ons ,a rear end for a ducati 125 that was cut in half and a bunch of misc parts. I dont know D what do you think

I think if you want to get rid of her Pm me and we'll talk Very Happy
The clip ons are over 100, the tires are a couple hundred, she'd probably pay for herself with some of the parts.
I'd rock and roll with it though. You've got a cafe racer kit! The expensive stuff has already been bought. Those old twins aren't very hard to figure out.

I just got back from Christmas vacation to find we have another vintage Honda Cafe! Awesome! Looks nice man! If it has not been started in a year like you mentioned I would definately go ahead and pull the carburetors and clean them real good as they will be gummed up after sitting that long. I hope you get her going!

I am betting the farm you have a carb issue, sounds like a combination of two carb problems. First off the jetting sounds like it is off, and I bet it is due to the upgrades in intake..most people do pods and skip jetting. Also it sounds like you have a case of leaking float seats. That caused the float bowl to over fill and drowns the cylinder. With the combo of the two problems, you would get going and moving making some power, but not great due to bad jetting. This allowed the fuel to fill the bowl faster than its being used by the engine. Once the float lifted, the bowl still filled until it flooded the cylinder and choked down the bike. Just a guess, but I have been down that road a few times! Wink

+1 For what Brother Twisted said above. If the needles are leaking and flooding the cylinders do not try to keep running it as the fuel in the cylinders can wash the rings and score the cylinders. When you clean the carburetors do not use anything to scrape the seat as it is easily damaged, I recommend cleaning the seat by polishing it with a q-tip and brasso. I really like your bike and hope you get her running soon!

I'm stoked about it! Thanks a billion Julius for agreeing to turn her loose! She'll be ripping the pavement up by next summer! Also probably going to fabricate a certain aluminum motorboat cowl seat for this bike! Now I'm going to be rushing through Dolores' mild rebuild so that I can get to the 350.
