CB900F weight loss project
WELL i have finally got my project home
1981 cb900f honda , its all there, but need alot of tlc ,the bodywork is in good shape
the engine is not locked up but has been setting since 1990, wow
i will use this project to keep me out of the refridge and off the couch, i hope
it's going to be a long term project,
i don't have anyway to post pictures , maybe i can get joeyputt to come to the shop and take some
we are in the same area about 4 miles apart,
i'm looking forward to getting started on it, it does need a complete redo
the front fender is good and the back fender is good , it needs attention on everything inbetween
one interesting thing i don't remember seeing "back in the day" the aftermarket exhaust exits on the left side of the bike,
thunderbeer is next week hope see some folks there
jim

Yeah I wish you could post some pics. What are you planning to do to it? Restoring to original condition?

i'm sorry fellas won't be no before pictures, i just got in from the shop
i've done took it apart, got the motor on the table, little son of a b@##h's
are heavier than i remember,
i was going to make a pro street bike out of it , but the more i dig into it
a stock redo seems in order, i'm digging on that little back tire
i think i will save the pro street project for a cbx engine i got my eye on.

Honestly, we are fllllllat broke. I foresee no rides ( nor events ) in the near future save for riding to work.
Was just razzin ya, I knew what you meant.

Re: CB900F weight loss project
Dang biggerjim you tore the whole bike down before I could drive a few miles for pics! Your quick!...seriously though everyone, biggerjim's got skills and I can not wait to see what he does with this 900!
Re: CB900F weight loss project
Can't wait to see some pics! I love cb900's. In fact the shock absorbers on my bike are from a cb900F.
A cbx engine eh? i love cbx's. Amazing motors, but a striaght up b*tch to get six carbs working together perfectly. When it is working right it is (imo) one of the most awe-inspiring motors to ever go between two wheels.

Re: CB900F weight loss project
Hey Jim, those bikes make killer retro fighters (what most of the kids are calling them) I call it a resto-mod! A CBR600 swinger from the F3 of F2 will bolt right up and a simple mounting bracket welded into the top frame rails under the seat will quickly get you a nice mono-shock and a 180 rear tire, plus you get those nice two piston calipers on the rear! A simple front end swap to some USD's and you have a cartrage tunable front with all the perks of the modern sportbike brakes, I would try to find some from a buel for those cool outer hub mounted rotors! Now I am sure you can figure out that with all that fun suspension stuff you will want to add some power so you can exit those apex's you will easily be able to set the bike into. There are loads of after market fun stuff out there for that bike too, so you could go as far as your imagination can take it! Well I will stop there before I write a book! As you may can tell I really have wanted a CB900 for a while...these are some of the mods I had in mind....wanted to call it the CB900RR! Hope you find some inspiration from my "little" post!

Re: CB900F weight loss project
Biggerjim brought his 900 engine in to have the finish restored and he and Weirdbeard requested that I post up some photos so here they are! Biggerjim want to do gloss black on the block, jugs and heads as well as the clutch and sprocket covers and gold on the valve cover and starter cover as well as the front nose covers for the stator and ignition covers...
Here is a before photo...
And here is a before of the starter cover...
And an after of the starter cover...I did this cover so that Biggerjim may see the color and it is what we will be using pending his approval...
And I sprayed the sprocket cover to get a look at the gloss black as well...
I have been washing/degreasing and sanding the engine over the past couple of days and can not wait to get her done up in this black and gold!

Man that thing is going to look sweet! Joey what paint is that you are using for the gold looking color? You don't have to say if you don't want.. Just curious.

Re: CB900F weight loss project
Man its really is nice stuff.. I'm sure some folks are thinking you took that first pic of the valve cover and simply sprayed it and it looked all great and smooth, but I appreciate how much prep you must of had to do to get that nice smooth paint.,
