Fuel gauge
Hey all,
Was wondering if this is possible or has been done by any members. Can i retrofit a new fuel gauge and float assembly from newer softail to my 1988 heritage classic. Not a big deal if it can't be done, was just wondering. If not I'll just con't. to keep track with my tripmeter.
Thanks for any insight,
Terry

Re: Fuel gauge
I am not sure, but I don't think so, as newer models are electric, not float. A dealer parts dept should be able to tell you for sure. You can't find an OEM, or did you find a prettier "shiny?"
Re: Fuel gauge
Hey, I have no fuel gauge just the reserve when she gets gets low and starts to stumble flip on reserve and head for a gas station.

Yep, had to do that twice already. Not a huge deal not to have gauge. But occasionally my 10 yr old will sit on my bike and pretend he's riding and inevitably he spins my trip knob jacking me all up.

Re: Fuel gauge
The only way to retro a gauge is to retro the tank and all from a late model.

Re: Fuel gauge
That would be too much of a pain in the butt. But thanks for the insight.

Check J & P cycle, they have a lot of after market gadgets. You could probably get the thing to work but the head ache of it might not be worth it. You could get a resistive float and find a gauge that works on a resistive reading or make one. A four led light that works on resistiance would work, There is probably a schematic on line some where. Just depends on how crazy you want to get.

Scadoodle I've decided it's not worth the effort I'd have to put into it. I'd rather spend the time and money on some other mod. Thanks for the advice though.
