Trade it in for a little Honda 250 and you will get 80 mpg then!

Hey!

Motorcycles in general...and Harley's in particular...are not just a hobby to some of us...they are a complete addiction!

Well, mine is helped by the Power Commander V with the additional autotune module. It constantly adjusts things. I SHOULD have said...it gets 45 when I keep my wrist out of it.... Twisted Evil

When I get these really bad wrist spasms, well...around 30. Wink

Mine's stage 3... Twisted Evil

Most people who go with the other control box and get a 3, well...they often get less than 30 all the time. I just smile....and snicker quietly. Mainly because those who do, Bash the crap out of the Power Commanders for some unknown reason. I have never had a problem with it. Paid a little more for the extra module, but save tons on dynos if I change anything out. Dynos where I bought mine at were 200 a pop. Module only cost 3.

I'll still get 45 + driving crazy, I"ll do the module one day, it will be a while, I want to get my wife a new ride first. She doesn't like shifting so it Ridley or a bigger scooter. She's got to make up her mind first, may take a while.

*Crickets* Razz

I don't have the tools or the back to do that anymore. If you get it over here I can put it on my lift and drop the wheels if that will help save money. Tomorrow night after 6 I will have time to drop them. Puttin it back together, I will have to squeeze in sometime during the day, as I have night shift for the next several days after that.

Miss G have you ordered your tires yet? Back three months ago i called the Honda Yahama shop over in FT. Walton beach they are located on Beal pkwy and they will pretty much have the cheapest prices in the southeast mounted out the door.
http://www.hondayamahafwb.com/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3
But you are forewarned they are busy so you may have to make arrangements to leave the bike for a day or two they are that busy. Another choice is http://discount-motorcycletires.com/home two brother tires they will have cheap and prolly oem tires for your bike and it still shows free shipping on $200 so check them out

So, do you have the tires, I could squeeze some time out after 5 pm tomorrow Friday I only work till 10 am, but I going to cut some wood at work and probably looking at 12ish to be across the bay. Let me know. If dragon will let you use his lift it will help i don't have any thing to pick a bike up with yet. I could get the tires off, I don't really have tools to put one on with out chancing poking the tube. Somebody's got to have tools. what about balancing?

It's become almost nightmarish trying to arrange, transfer tires, the bike, unmount, remount. Ugh. Found out tonight that Victory in Loxley will mount any tire, any bike for $40/tire. Leatherup.com is still ahead of all others on price AND I have a coupon for 10% off... I think this is the route I'm going to go.

Thank you for the offers....I know you'd do it and I know it's a big job.

Where do you buy your tires? - Page 2 Empty Re: Where do you buy your tires?

Post by jmunsey Thu Sep 08, 2011 1:25 am

I was trying to stay out of this after finding out I have the worst gas mileage of any HD! Please do not take this the wrong way as I have no horse in this race and I am gettin old these days. It is late and I am now drinking gatorade with rum...how sad is that??!!

Mcycycle tires tend to be pretty important! I spent many years riding those old BMW airheads and used to carry tire irons in the tool kit and a spare tube...actually changed a tire and tube on the shoulder of a highway many years ago. I could lay the bike over on that cylinder and get the wheel off...change tire and tube....and get back on the road. Not so easy with the new bikes.

Why do Mcycle tires cost so much? They are made different than car tires...car tires do not ride on the sides...mcycle tires do as you lean them. You only have two vice four and if one goes bad at speed...the results are worse. I have had back wheel blowouts at highway speed several times....not a good feeling. Additionally, I have had the back wheel bearing fail twice (older evo....not a "twinkie" bike! The newer "twinkie" HD's have a much longer interval between wheel bearing service).

I have taken the back wheel off my sidecar Road King a couple of times and taken it to HD to replace the tire and then remounted...just to save a few bucks. The front tire was a bit more difficult as you had to remove the caliper...added time and requires more know how...but not impossible.

Sidecars are a bit different though as you have three tires on the ground....I blew the back tire once at 70+...not that big a deal...still had two on the ground.....solo bike....a bit more of a big deal.

Ken at Retro is a great mechanic...I have been to him for service and stuff and he has my utmost respect.....many cool old bikes at his shop to look at as well.

Eastern Shore HD is a great shop......been there a number of times and know a few of them......I think they are one of the best shops in the area.

I have taken a BMW mcycle wheel to Mikes Saw in Rdale to get a tire replaced. $20 first time and $30 the second time...not sure why the price went up.

There is a bike shop I see the sign for off 87...Speedy's Harley Davidson or something.

I like the Victory dealer in Loxley....never had any work done there....just hope they stay in business as the more bike shops the better.

I have absolute faith in H&D in Lillian.

Bottom line...pick a reputable shop to do your tires...nothing more important safety wise than tires......always good to have a professional check those wheel bearings and break pads while the tire is getting replaced. Sometimes they will see things that you would not see that needs attention. The price often seems way too high....but...if you can afford it......well worth the peace of mind to have a pro change that tire than trying to make it a do-it-yerself project.

The above advice pertains to any bike.....if you have an expensive HD..and they all are.....give some thought to how much you paid for the bike....how much your life is worth...and make your decision accordingly.

Hey! Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings here...don't mean to.....but being a consultant by profession....can't help myself....besides...getting old and senile these days!

I have a large garage with lifts and a lot of tools....anyone of you is welcome to use....Between a bad back and arthritic knees....I can only help out so much. But hey!! I always have plenty of cheap beer on hand!

I heard that Motor Cycle tire are more cause they are still hand Made.
