Re: Road Trip
Well ended up being a two bagger trip , my long time ( 20+ years ) riding partner Bill came along
Left Prattville at 0400 Wednesday and headed north on I65 , ran that to Elizabethtown Kentucky where we got on the Martha Layne Collins BlueGrass Parkway to Lexington Ky where we picked up I64 , ran that to Grayson Ky where we shut down for the night , a bit over 600 miles , got there around 1730 Bama time , that included a one hour stop in Cullman for our obligatory Cracker Barrel breakfast ..The last fifty miles wednesday was a deluge of magnanomic proportions , didnt even stop to put on the rain soots ..
Left Grayson at 0400 Bama time Thursday morning and ran I64 to Charleston WVa where we picked up I79 and ran it north to just west of Pittsburgh , met Ken at 1100 Bama time , just in time for lunch .. 910 miles up .. Oh dont forget the one hour Cracker Barrel breakfast ..
Rode the valley around Ken's place Thursday afternoon , LongHorn that night
Friday we rode to the east side of Pitt to meet up with my other buddy doc and the Geritol Crew at the Double D , hadda take the turnpike most of the way , they shud pay me for riding that trash they call a road .. Left there and headed to Shanksville for to see the Flt93 memorial .. Cant talk about that , makes my blood boil ..
Saturday , we rode up to see Ken's friend Al on the Allegheny River , he rides a cough cough cough , forgive me , Gold Wing .. Left there and rode up to Foxburg Pa ..
Bill and I rolled out Sunday morning at 0530 Bama time headed back to safe haven below the Mason Dixon line .. Took I79 south to Washington Pa and picked up I70 to Columbus Ohio where we picked up I71 and ran into Cincy and down to Louisville where we picked up I65 again , 65 aahh practically home , stopped in Winchester Ky about four miles above the Tennessee line at 1730 Bama time , again we had our obligatory one hour breakfast at Cracker Barrel ..
Jeez wudnt ya know it , we topped off the baggers that evening , and darn , yep theres the Cracker Barrel ..
Rolled out at 0400 this morning , stopped for a quick breakfast near the Bama line , and rolled south .. Pulled into my place at 1000 this morning .. 870 miles return leg ..
2220 total miles and with the exception of a few bursts we set the cruise at 63-65 mph the entire trip and I averaged 48-52 mpg the entire run ..
