I tried making my own handlebars
I dont really like the new tbars on my road king. I have always had apehangers and I prefer them. I am glad I tried something new, but it aint me.
So searching for new bars - my risers are 1 1/4" - I was unhappy with the idea of paying over $100 (not including shipping) for new bars around 16" high and 32" wide. I really miss my zbars from the C50, but those were even more expensive and then I was going to need to have them powdercoated on top of that.
So I figured I'd try to make my own z bars from scratch. Couldn't be that hard. I went to Lowes, grabbed a piece of black iron pipe (1" x 48"). I measured the pipe minus the threads on the end - 45.75" - found the center of that - measured 5" out from center on each side. This would give me a 10" wide base at the top (about 12" wide at the bottom of the base). I then cut the center piece making a 45 degree cut at each mark. Then used the cut pieces for hieght. They were a little over 17" tall - so I marked them at 15" and made another 45 degree cut. I used the leftover 2" pieces for the tops of the bars to make the "z" part. I then took an old handlebar that was 1" diameter and chopped the ends of them to use on my new z bars.
I then welded the pieces together and after wire brushing the slag off the welds - I have 15" tall z bars that are 1 1/4" diameter with 1" ends. I still have to clean up the welds a little, then have it powdercoated, but so far, my investment is only $13.90 and I have bars I made that are my own specs!!!
I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out - I'll snap pics when the sun comes back up and I get a chance - hahaha.

couldnt wait - went out after dinner and started finishing them up. I have them grinded smooth now - the powdercoater will sandblast them before applying the gloss black powder and clearcoat finish. They look AWESOME!!!!
I did it all myself! I'm kinda excited - can ya tell? hahaha

Looks Awesome Brother Amish! The best part is you built them yourself!
Re: I tried making my own handlebars
I made my clubmans from several old bars that were laying around in my shop. Good job, saved yourself some coin by doing it yourself and getting just the look you wanted.
