Re: V STAR backfireing
And is it running fine at speed or on the throttle or is backfiring then as well?
Re: V STAR backfireing
backfiring is a fuel issue.
bunch of things can cause backfiring....
improper jetting,
stuck floats allowing too much fuel to pass by
the dying out can be a result of flooding.
are you noticing any stuttering in the throttle or bike when slowing down?

Have you checked the overflow tubes to see if it is spitting gas out? does it leak gas, smell a strong gas odor?

Start with the basics, pull the spark plugs and see what they look like and we can try and help you go from there...they should be dry and a nice golden brown color on the porcelain part and make sure there is no carbon or anything between the electrode on the end...

Normaly. A backfire through the exhaust on decell is a lean problem. I would look for an exhaust leak or an intake leak. Too much air will cause a decell pop or backfire. If you change pipes without rejetting it will cause this problem because it is too lean. A vacume leak will also cause it to die at idle and at red lights. Have you done anything to the bike recently?

ok I'm back. My wife distracted me. Anyway the plugs looked good Joeyputt.I failed to mention that I added 5oz. sea foam before the backfiring got worse . Hayweed thats all I've done recently . I rode some and filled gas tank again . When I got home it wasn't popping at idle anymore , just backfiring while down shifting . Thank ya'll for responding . Ya'll some good Dudes .

The backfire while downshifting is also a lean problem. You need to make sure it's not running to lean. You can burn a piston if it's too lean. If it keeps runnin bad or your not sure you can run it buy the shop and I'll see if it's too much or if you can live with it.
