Cool! Just got back from Lake City, CO a couple weeks ago.... wish I had a bike while I was there, but we had a blast on the 4-wheelers.

That is what that trip was for me too. I hope to get to do something like it again some day. Half of the expense was new tires, chain, and sprockets. I camped almost the whole way and only spent maybe $200 on fuel to do the 5k miles. The rest was food and camp sites.
Occational short trips up to the smokies are wonderful too. Either escaping the heat down here or taking a peek at the leaves in the Fall.

In your opinion.. What kind of money would a fella need to allocate to do the Utah ride? I want to do it so bad. That is amazing you only spent $200 on fuel!

Re: dual sport travel pics...
Lets see....the VTX is a gas sucking HAWG! 200$ on fuel would get me about, ummm.....about HALF way! lol.
Awesome pictures though, again! I would LOVE to have a trip like this one day too.
I swear.....I need 3 or 4 bikes instead of 1.

Re: dual sport travel pics...
I Believe it ended up costing just a little over $230 for me in fuel.
It would be almost impossible to guess how much it would cost due to different variables.
What type of bike?
Do you already have it or need to buy one?
Are you going to find a place to camp... or pay for a camp site... or hotel?
Are you going to live off of Rameon Noodles... or McDonalds... or $20 a meal resturaunts?
What will the fuel prices be when you leave?
What type of gear will you be buying/needing for camping/etc.?
If you aready own a bike and gear then the cost is just food, gas, and parts. I had to work up and slowly accumulate my things for a few years. I started off barely having what I needed for a short trip in the summer. Then got things for different climates/seasons. Then GPS etc. Then I had what I needed to do that in comfort.
This is the first bike I have ever owned so I don't have as much experience as most guys on the subject. I did find myself only needing a small portion of what I packed. lol

I kinda figured there would be no easy answer to cost.. I guess the first thing I need to do is get a DS. Or turn my sporty into one..

I have seen someone turn a Ninja into a long travel suspension dual sport!
Back in the day all motorcycles were kind of dual sports since the Hwy system was not like it is today... me thinks.

Yes.. I love the look of those old bikes too. You should have seen the fellas bike at the bike show last weekend.. He made a Suzy Maraider? into a crazy cool dual sport... V twin DS. It looked like it came from the factory like that.

Hey Marty, I'm still waiting on that ride report. When I rode the TAT with 2 guys, I waited for them to share there pics. They never did put there pics on the net, & I never wrote a ride report. Just sayin....

It's good you brought that up. I finally got to meet up with Aaron(the local guy I did the trip with) this Wensday. He downloaded something like 8 GB worth of pics onto my computer. I told him that I am going to Organize the pics... blend them with mine... and start doing a RR. He said for me to shoot him a link as soon as I start it so he could add comments here and there. So I need to get that RR done before the story slips my mind. Which does not take long these days. lol
That's a really neat looking dual sport up there. I always like seeing custom jobs. I could never get tired of seeing those.

the sporty wud be very easy to turn into a DP bike ..
I've done a bunch a road trips in my day on bikes , and while it is hard to put a figure on the costs , as everyone is different , if ya stay in decent motels on the road and eat one decent meal a day , at todays prices on everything , I figger $100 a day to cover all expenses , short of a breakdown ... And I usually have money left over .. Especially if you split a motel with someone or camp at COE campgrounds which are dirt cheep ..
