The transformation of my KLX400
I have some time & thought I'd show how my KLX400 got like it is now. First off, it's actually a Suzuki DRZ400. They sold it one year (2003) as a KLX400 & I bought it with 430miles.
This is the only pic I could find were it's almost stock.
My bro-in-law wanted me to ride the Trans American Trail with him, so I had to buy a bigger gas tank & some luggage. Here's a few pics from that trip.
Clean & ready to get started on a 6 day 3 state offroad ride.
Arkansas rice field silt got me
Ozarks
When I got back home I bought some 17" wheels
When I had the chance to buy some blue plastic I couldn't resist. I also found a skull that I had to have.
When I saw the Euro version with a white tail I liked that so much I changed that too.
Of course I also added a pumper carb (FCR 39MX)
HotCams
Race pipe
EBC over size brake rotor & S.S. brake lines
Hope I didn't bore you to much. Next time I'll post some pics from my Colorado & Moab trip. Later, Rob.

Re: The transformation of my KLX400
Dude, the mods you did on the bike are awsome the blue looks good and the graphics are cool but, I bet those tires get loose in the sand and feel weird off road?? I don't know, I saw a guy one time took a 73 honda cb 350 and set it up with dirt tires and rode it like a dual sport. That guy was crazy! I like a light bike and good suspension on the dirt. But these motard bikes look scary to me. I guess its all in what you get used to and have the balls to try. kudos!

You can take any dirtbike wheel & lace up a 17" rim on the stock hub. You just buy the rims & spokes.

Re: The transformation of my KLX400
I would like to try one of those beta's anybody know any thing about em?
the 2010 450 shoot out was dominated by the beta this year. The suspension is top notch along with most everything else on that thing. That looks like it would be a sweet riding motard bike with power to spare.

Also has any body seen the 2011 husqvarna 450 thumper? They redesigned everything completely and went to a BMW engine. I am interested to see how that will turn out.

Re: The transformation of my KLX400
I actually worked at a ktm dealer for a while and I think they are good bikes the biggest problem we had was water in the oil due to bad water pump seals
but they corrected the problem around 05' I believe. I worked on them from 99 to 04 and that was only on the thumpers. the 2 smokers were great bikes
with little to no mechanical problems. the suspension on a KTM also is top notch and the hydraulic clutch is wonderful.
