The Dark Side
I saw on Jeanne's jacket that The Dark Side has cookies . . . and I happened to have a Harley at my disposal. So I took my first ride ever on a Harley. Out-of-town friend left it in my care for two weeks. This one is from the late 80s to early 90s -- can't remember what he told me; a simple, light (for Harley) machine but not an 883 or a Sportster, tiny bib of a windshield, soft bags, speedo and tach in separate round dials on the tank (someone told me this is a less-common and better version than a similar bike without the separate instruments, and I'm giving all this description for the benefit of any HOGs out there who may be curious.)
'Cause this machine is souped up -- cam, straight pipes, rejetted carb(s) and I don't know what else, and it stunned me with its acceleration and torque. Damn near the equal of the Valkyrie I recently sold. LIked the comfort of the farm tractor seat and riding position. Was also amazed at how stable and predictable it is at walking and even shuffling speeds. No wonder the cops all like Harleys, since so much of their work is low-speed crowd control. And I gotta admit, the sound --oh, the sound!--is sexy as hell when one is controlling it instead of just being annoyed by it.
So I'm gonna quit making so much fun of Harleys --- if someone I won't name will quit making fun of my Guzzi.
And Jeanne -- where the hell are the cookies?
