Cherohala Skyway is a given. I like it better than the dragon to tell the truth.

Since you're in that area anyway and if you want a lot LESS tourist trap congestion, check out DeSoto Falls. Free and public with one hella falls and canyon view.

Re: Area knowledge for central adn northern al.
I am back. left out thursday morning around 6 AM. Rode straight to deals gap, 28, and the skyway. Went to my cabin in georgia after that. Got up early the next morning , Rode up the the lodge at capperhead and shot really grainy video of the start of the iron butt lite rally. left after teh riders took off adn headed to desoto falls ( GEORGIA) Duh, wrong falls, but got some great riding in. I avoided highway on friday. I rode to fort payne to the right desoto falls.Water was much less than pictured above. rode part of the mountain rode, left there adn headed to the covered bridge. Kinda cool. Then over to near tuscaloosa adn headed home on back roads. Got home tonight around 9;45. little under 1500 miles in 2 days, Alot of that was in a dounpouring rain. I will post up pics and an actual ride report in the next couple days.

I'm surprised after all the rain that has been happening. But the level does vary, I have seen it almost dry and then heavier than the pics. When I lived in Northern AL., we went swimming there often. I was told by a neighbor that the falls froze one winter, wish I could have seen that.
Re: Area knowledge for central adn northern al.
this was the whole purpose of my trip. i have a family member competing in this rally.Called teh Ironbutt lite, Will end up riding about 6k miles or more in 6 days just to be considered a finisher. Started in Blairsville ga, at this lodge at copperhead, Will end in Denver 6 days later.

1k a day is a lot. There is no way I could make a ride like that. My back wouldn't let me. Hope they all make it safe.
