My new insurance company Empty My new insurance company

Post by jughead Thu May 10, 2012 5:02 pm

I just switched from State Farm to Dairy Land. Two bikes full coverage plus $5000.00 each in accessories coverage. Total yearly premium for both bikes combined $283.60. With state Farm without the accessories coverage $1320.00 per year. If anyone is interested let me know I will share the phone number.

I've been with state farm since I was 16. I tried to shop around, Daddy always said you get what you pay for. Honestly to me none of them are no longer there for us.

So have I. I will keep my car and house there (mainly because of my agent) But you are correct, the company is no longer there for us.

I have never heard of them either. I have had farmers for about 20 years. Never had a problem with them.

I know what your saying Jack. I had a leaky roof and when they came out and looked at it I knew it was old age and not covered. The adjuster told me he was there to get me the money. Not to deny it. Three days later I had a new roof. Never had any problems with them on vehicle claims either. I pay les than $220 a month with a car, truck, bike and trailer. Nothing older than an '03.

On the other side of that coin. I just dropped Farmers homeowners (last year) and went to State Farm. Been with Farmers for 9 years. Policy started out at $1600.00 then $2800.00 then last year they wanted $4600.00.

I think they are all crooks.

ours on the house that burned down was over three hundred a month .. Just the house .. Was because of being under a VFD and they have two rates under five miles and over five miles from the station ..
Over five miles is almost double the under five miles rate , we were about 5.1 miles , no lie less than 1000 feet over the five miles , but a few months ago we got a new station just up the road , and policy dropped a good bit , house and two vehicles ( 01 Ford 4X4 and 03 Honda CRV ) is $199.00 a month ..

They couldnt match Dairyland on the bike ..
Also Dairyland , if you buy a new bike , for three model years and additional $15 a year , you get full replacement coverage ..

My 2011 was $22000 new , if I total it tomorrow ( is paid for ) and it costs $30000 to replace it , I get $30000 ..

They are all crooks , but what can you do ??

My new insurance company Empty Concerning State Farm

Post by TheOldGuy Sat May 19, 2012 11:08 am

My history with State Farm goes back to when I was 16, 51 years ago. All of it is bad. I was a home inspector in the Pensacola market during and after Hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, and Georges. I saw a roof on which the owner had painted "Good Neighbor, My Ass!" and that sums up what I saw after Ivan doing owner-advocacy work.

I have a letter from State Farm's underwriting department apologizing for calling me a liar. That arose from unqualified mistakes by State Farm. I also have a letter to the agent from State Farm admitting they 'd made the mistakes but saying they would not admit them "because there is no graceful way to apologize." The admission and apology did come later, under threat of legal action. My agent at the time, good and very successful lifetime State Farm agent, said it was the only letter of apology he'd ever seen them issue.

In my opinion, and apparently in the opinions of many others I've talked to, State Farm is the sleeziest major consumer-direct company in the United States. But United Health Care may run them a very close second.

My new insurance company Empty GEICO AND PROGRESSIVE

Post by TheOldGuy Sat May 19, 2012 3:55 pm

Come to think of it, I had a girlfriend about 30 years ago that GEICO screwed over pretty well

Progressive has a former chief officer who is still a major owner, who is a huge, seven-figure, maybe eight-figure, backer of socialist forces trying to turn the USA into a socialist government. I pulled cars, RV, and bike away from them. Markel has my bike now. So far so good.

I'm going to check into dairyland. Been with GMAC for years paying for additional coverage I no longer need. I recently called to drop back to liability and they won't do it without a letter from the state. Sounds like a cop out to me.

Pure bullshit from GMAC. States don't care if you protect yourself or not. They want you to carry liability to protect others. GMAC is simply making it hard for you to reduce the amount of money they take from you. Dump the bastards altogether.

Might it not be a good idea to also compare coverage, terms, exclusions, and so forth? Or run numbers with Markel and AllState (not that I'm a fan of Allstate, but they're pushing hard for the motorcycle trade nowadays)? What's the point in having the lowest premium if the coverage isn't there or the company will twist like a contortionist in a fire ant bed to get out of paying?

I have found lower premiums than I pay with State Farm but the coverage is lower than what I have now. All insurance companies are out to make money but I'm am a life long State Farm customer and they have treated me well with the few claims I've had over the years. Sometimes it took some negotiation, but I got what I thought was fair in the end. In fact when I totaled my first bike they offered NADA retail right off, so I took it especially since it was $700 more than I paid for the bike.

You've had far better luck with them than my father or I have had, or any of my home inspection clients did . . . but . . . stay with success, I suppose.

Wow. The savings to me were huge. Plus the when I added my wife's bike the policy premium only increased $43.00 per year. 2 bikes yearly premium less than $300.00 per year combined.
