vtx 1800 loading up
I've got a VTX 1800 C 2003 model that I seem to be having a little trouble with. At the end of the riding season last year I
got what I thought was bad gas and the bike started loading up (flooding out) and back firing- got to the point it wouldn't
run at all. Flushed the fuel tank and but new gas in it , but it still would not crank. Over the winter I drained the tank then
I ordered , and installed new filters in the fuel tank, new air filter, new spark plugs, changed oil and antifreeze etc and finally
got it all put back together over the weekend. Poured the gas back in the tank and Tried to crank it over the weekend but
the battery was caput... got a new battery charged it over night and this evening after work was the first time That I was
able to crank it since it went down. However it still seems to be loading up and will not idle. I need some suggestions as I
don't know what to adjust on a fuel injected engine to stop this.

Fuel injected....Does it have O2 sensors in the exhaust? These may be dirty and telling the computer bad things.
Re: vtx 1800 loading up
Are you sure it is loading up? It may be low fuel pressure. The ethanol in the gas has been eating fuel pumps all over.

1)Doesn't appear to have any o2 sensors in the exhaust anywhere,
2) Not sure that its loading up but when you let off the gas and let it try to idle then give it gas again just before it goes dead it sends out a puff of black smoke that has a strong smell of gas

Re: vtx 1800 loading up
could it be the air temperature sensor in the filter housing that is sending bad signals, in case you can't tell looking for the cheap way out. that sensor is $13.00 the fuel pump assembly for this bike is $311.00

Re: vtx 1800 loading up
Thanks for the info, I'll try checking all of the cable connections and all grounds, plus replace the fuel pressure regulator before I tear the tank down again to replace the fuel pump. Thanks again you guys have been a world of help.

Hayweed and Phantom,
Got the high pressure vaccuum in and finally got to put it on the bike, she's purring like a kitten again. Thank you guys for your help and suggestions, couldn't have done it without you. I was about ready to give up and take it to the Honda shop and fork out that $465.00 to fix what turned out to be a $28.00 part. You guys saved me. Thanks again.
