Brother JSteele it sounds like they had it down to the bare frame and were into the engine as well which they may have paid a lot of labor on plus they mentioned chrome and carbon fiber which is not inexpensive. The asking price seems fair but I could never put $30,000 plus into a bike!
Re: What's up with this $30k invested?
I know that some sellers like to fluff their ad to justify their asking price, but that sure is a big loss if that guy is for real.

Brother JSteele they were probably including the original purchase price too. I have to agree that is a big loss but I have seen a lot of bikes up for sale like that recently.
Re: What's up with this $30k invested?
those dry clutches are a BITHC to work on too....even says needs new "Klutch plates"
if thats the case, it probably needs more than that !

Re: What's up with this $30k invested?
I had a Ducati Monster 750 - needed to replace the clutch cover (just a simple stock one) - $656.49 from the dealer. Ebay was rolling them out around $250. Decided Ducati was not the bike to have if you wanted to actually ride it.
I have a feeling its been wrecked and the costs are dealer costs including labor. As for the magazine - its likely a regional obscure magazine or the title would've been mentioned. So sounds like a lot of fluff going on there.
Its a nice bike - but with it needing work - essential work - I wouldn't go over 2800.

Invested to me always includes purchase price.
If you farm out a lot of the work, particularly the performance stuff and custom paint, I can see a huge bill at the end worth of investment. Some paint work I have seen with my own eyes was 10K alone.
But the two things that make me wanna run away are THAT cheap of a resell and "Needs clutch." A performance machine like that that needs a clutch more times than not will need a lot of more work either now or in the very near future. Or it's a rich boys toy and he finally did something STOOPID and scared himself off it, or daddy saw or heard and said "I want it gone, NOW." Or perhaps somebody got too far into something bad ( usually drugs or money ) and needs the money before Guido drops by and breaks his legs. Yes, my mind works too much...
Any way ya slice it, though...I wouldn't touch it.
