New project 2010526
Just out of 18 yrs storage. 74 Sporty. Lots of work but it turns over and has good compression, should run. Riding to Raleigh NC tomorrow and I'll be working on it when I get back.

Awesome! Love the period look of the tank. The AMF bikes aren't as bad as all of that. I'd change the bars, remove the sissy bar and shine up the O.G. paint as much as possible. Lots of potential there dude.

That is a brake, you can see the mechanical brake connecting rod coming out of the cover and running to the brake arm on the rear drum.

For '74 it should be the shifter Harley ran right side until '75 I believe, the old triumph bonnevilles had right shift too...I forgot and about blasted through a 4 way stop on the last one I rode well I downshifted thinking I was on the brakes...oops! but that was right here at the house, you actually get used to it pretty quick.

Weed you ever driven the early sporty's I did some work on a friends '57 sporty and his 28 Indian (rhett rotten he rides the wall of death all over the country, you have probably seen or met him) anyway the early sporty's have the left handgrip which twists like the throttle but it twists to adjust the timing advance while you ride! so you twist the throttle with your right hand and twist the timing advance with your left hand and right hand shift!

it should be shift there is a pivot that runs through the frame and comes over to that side for the brake linkage you see in the photo

That is odd, must have been converted, 67/68 should be right side shift too...

I had one of these in HS. It WAS an AMF bike. i had nothing but bad luck. Others seem to do well with them, Mine spent more time getting hauled back home in a truck that I actually spent riding it.

Mine was a pre 69 model so the shifter was on the wrong side..

Just got home last night, 775 miles yesterday, my a$$ is draggin today. Took a bunch of backroads to avoid the x-way. The Sporty is a right hand shift AMF. Oh well, it's not mine just working on it for someone. If it was mine it would have a 16 on the back, 21 on front, drag bars and hardtail.
