They're a beginer bike. Once you learn to ride. you sell it and buy a bigger bike.

I told a guy at church I wanted a bigger bike, he said he was selling his 883 and was perfect for me... /boggle I wanted a bigger bike... that would have been a waste of money. Plus it was a Harley

Everyone has a different idea of what is a beginner bike and what's not. And yes, personally, I am of the opinion a beginner is 500cc or lower. And what's worse is that many manufacturers are stopping production of smaller bikes.
A 500 is more than enough power and weight to kill a newbies ass. Look at what happened to edera and she is not what I would call a newbie, she took the MSF course TWICE and had at least a 1000 miles under her belt.
No, I don't get mad about anyone starting out on something bigger...but as someone who has taught dozens of people how to ride, I have seen far more than my share of them wipe out, try to climb trees and knock down fences learning. So I definitely impress my opinion on anyone who asks me about what size to start on. Again, ask edera how many times she has laid her Night Train down. Long before we met, some fool talked her into buying that for a very first bike.
Just my nickel. No better than anyone else's.

i can tell yall from experience fellow harley guys that a sportster is not a beginner bike especially mine and really dont care to have a bigger bike because on this note and nick can relate to this is a sportster is a nimble bike on roads like in the smokies or the gulf state park it handles like a slant bike and all the power you want coming outta the curves. i have bros who ride dynas and screaming eagle street glides and such and yeah they got bigger twins in them but theyre alot heavier and cant get a sporty outta the hole but at least the big twins have a 6th gear which is sweet.

Re: Quite a steal of a deal...
everyone please excuse me im not trying to start anything...i just catch flack all the time about my sporty cause its little...and just feel the sportster deserves much respect ya know....as far as riding i dunno if youll find someone more passionate than me, ive loved bikes since i was a kid the sound would always turn my head, i was 15 working my first job after school in a carpet warehouse and parked inside all the time was my bosses 95 fatboy i will never forget it, and when nobody was around i would push the fatboy to one end of the building and get a run on it just long enough to put my feet on the pegs and would do that over and over until boss was back or my legs couldnt take it no more....i love to ride

It's cool. Just like to give people h*ll when they ride girley bikes. Just giving ya a hard time. But I once heard a sporty called a "piglit" cause it wasn't a full grown "HAWG"

Like you can talk......
I'm going to have to start paying you out of pocket to follow me around at work. Full time job and it will give Hayweed a break.
