It's gonna get HOT!
I am researching the most effective method for cooling my EVO this summer. Last summer I could tell that it was getting to hot when in stop and go traffic. Do any of you turn the engine off when you know you are going to be stopped for a minute or more?
From what I can find, there are three things available.
1. Oil Cooler
2. Aluminum heat sink sleeve for oil filter
3. Engine cooling fan
This weekend I am going to remove my lower fairings (the ones on the crash bar). Hopefully this will help keep me and the engine cooler.
Any thoughts on this subject?

A lean fuel/air mixture will cause it to run hot. Can you hook it up to a dyno & see what it's burning?

Oil Cooler, OEM. You can get a fan to put on those now, never had one myself though.
Factory Air Fan, not so well recommended. I got one I believe from this guy:

I run AMSOIL, supposed to run cooler. Have some kind of snap onto the oil filter ribbed cooler, dont see those online anymore much.
Some people get these to make THEMSELVES run cooler....

Had all sorts of trouble on mine in stop and go traffic till I put the stuff on.

The engine will feel hot when you stop in traffic. It's probly not as hot as you think. The best thing to do is get an oil temp gauge and see exactly how hot it is. Then worry about cooling if needed. Dragons bike would get so hot it would shut off. We knew his was too hot.

EVO's dont get hot , Twinkies get HOT ..
1 works
2 doesnt
3 moves hot air from one side of the bike to the other

I have a front mounted oil cooler and filter, thinking about adding a fan to the cooler and also across the back cylinder. Just need to fine a couple of small weatherproof models to use. Any recommendation on reasonable fans??

Re: It's gonna get HOT!
I believe the water proof ones run a little high! You could ask Spectronics in Mobile. I learned the hard way about shutting off the bike. If you do turn off the key too. I run a heavy oil in the summer. I guess it would help to remove the lower fairings. I would think oil filter fins would only be effective while moving, I agree with Jack on the fan. I also keep up with my exhaust studs off the heads, mine loosen, especially on the rear cylinder, making my leg get hotter. Of course you don't have a sportster. If I would consider a fan ,i would look for something that I could duct up under the tank to blow the air down, something along the lines of a turbo in line style. It would probably require some fabrication. Buells have some kind of turbo fan cooling. Maybe a retro fit! I have been told that Oi; coolers will make it run 20 degrees cooler and the best ones are the one that mount one the side rather than the bottom. It would be great to live in a perfect world where we didn't get stuck in traffic.

Re: It's gonna get HOT!
the harley fans have crap for bearings and they dont last long , I think it's the lenale that is sold on flea bay that is the good fan , but again you are just blowing hot air from one side to the other .
Oil coolers do the most good while the bike is moving ..
the lowers , when the bike is moving force more air into the front of the motor

Re: It's gonna get HOT!
there used to be a air scoop device for the shovels that flowed air to the rear cylinder

Re: It's gonna get HOT!
The parade fan that I installed on dragons bike works really well. It is a high velocity fan that moves a lot of air. I just don't see needing it on a stock EVO motor.
