Deer Alert Empty Deer Alert

Post by Guest Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:27 pm

Last night my wife and I were returning from Robertsdale to Daphne on 64, riding 2-up. Suddenly a large deer jumped out of the woods and across the road in front of us. I braked hard, but the collision was unavoidable - the deer is history. Fortunately we didn't go down. Damage to the bike (HD UG) includes bent forks, bent frame, broken lights, the crash bar is wrapped around the front cylinder, etc. etc. I got a deep cut on my shin, but my wife is fine. Fortunately, we hit the deer straight-on so didn't get deflected to the side. The fairing, crash bar and fender absorbed most of the impact and we were able to coast to a stop. The lesson is, it's about time for the rut, and the warm weather and foggy conditions are indicative the deer will be moving around. SLOW DOWN and keep a sharp eye peeled. Deer are large animals but they can move very fast. Don't be an almost-statistic like us.

Omigosh. I am glad that y'all are okay. I had a close encounter with a large dog once. And that was enough to teach me to watch out in and of itself. I have only seen deer on the sides of the road so far.

64 or 59? 64 doesnt go betwee daphne and loxley. A customer of mine hit a deer on 59 between Lox and Rdale saturday night.

Glad u are ok. U are very lucky, I have heard of many motorcycle fatalities from deer collisions.

64 does go between the two. You have to get on 54 to go between R'dale and Daphne though.

Well theoretically 64 goes thru Robertsdale, But I'm from Fairhope, so what's the difference of Loxley and Robertsdale anyway. I have never seen a deer while on my bike except when I was following another bike east on 90 near Pensocala. I think between the whistling light bracket and the top end noise of my sportster it scares the hell out of them. Shoot If I had sensitive ears and heard my bike coming I'd run like hell too. But it doesn't work on Buzzards.

This has crossed my mind thousands of times. Was going up 31 one day and just before I topped a hill another biker gave me the signal to use caution over the hill and sure enough was 2 small deer on my side of the road. Im glad I slowed down cause I had no idea what to expect.

So glad you and your wife are ok. That could have been disastrous there.
Just curious what kind of damage was done to the deer ?

Haven't seen any down here (so far ) However they are all over Illinois in great numbers so I am always fearful of them. Glad you two are ok, definitely could have been a lot worse.

Here's a pucker video for ya all.

OMG! pale *faints* I live in Robertsdale and won't ride at night usually because of that very reason. I've had them jump out in front of my truck before and barely managed to miss them. I'm glad y'all are ok....don't know how you kept that bike up...damn...
