March 2011 BOTM
Congrats to Tully! 3rd time is a charm....
Tully Mars - 2009 Thunder Mountain Custom Spitfire C.
Tully Mars' write up:
It is a Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 motor with SuperTrapp 2-1 exhaust. Has Screamin Eagle heavy air breather upgrade, Screamin Eagle Race Tuner as well. Just upgraded the mirrors too, so the ones you have seen are the old HD mirrors. Attached are pics taken this morning of the Spitfire.

Re: March 2011 BOTM
Thank you (bow), thank you (bow to the left), thank you (bow to the right). I would like to thank.....ok, I will shut up now.
What I should say is that yes, 3rd time may be a charm, but the BOTM title came at just the right time. As of this weekend I put some real sweat and stress into it by doing a little preventative restoration to the fuel tank. (See thread in the Campfire).
Anyhow, because of the paint job on the bike the stress was heightened quite a bit. A couple of Indy shops turned me down on doing the tank coating and the shop out in Denver I got the bike from pretty much blew me off. So I did my research and with tips from this site tackled the project this past weekend. So far the prognosis is good and I am more than happy with the early results.
The point to this...I have some sweat invested and now I have some real bonding time with the machine. I can't wait to ride it later in the week when the tank is done curing and I reassemble it. The Spitfire will be on the road this weekend and I think the ride to come will be the sweetest.
Special thanks to JSteele for his help during the project. His level head and experience helped keep me deliberate through the project. Though this was his first tank restoration also, his assistance is 2nd to none. We always make a great team.
Thanks all.
TM

Re: March 2011 BOTM
One thing to note.. on my wife's old sporty, the bolts that hold the fuel injection pump in the tank are sacrificial (only meant to be used once). I found out the hard way that they will snap off pretty easily the 2nd time around.
