Welcome to the boards from the grand metropolis that is Silverhill.
My best advice is simply to think of your self as invisible, because a lot of cagers simply won't see motorcycles.

Re: new rider and new to all forums
A late welcome from Pensacola. My wife is my Official Backseat Rider, so I keep her in ignorance of the technical stuff. We have helmet intercoms so in this case a little knowledge would be a major irritant and her ignorance is my bliss.
The man who sold me my first two motorcycles gave me two pieces of advice:
1. Ride like everything out there, and that is EVERYTHING, is being piloted by a homocidal maniac out to get you; and keep a running awareness in the back of your mind of where you're going to go at any given second to dodge him.
2. Never put your motorcycle where you couldn't put a Buick (and Buicks were really big way back then).
