July 2011 BOTM
Congrats to Jmunsey and his Deuce Coupe.
Awesome ride!!
Here is his write up.....
Deuce Coupe info:
I found the sidecar on ebay back in 2008. It is a California Sidecar Friendship III. It is the largest one they have. After I bought it and picked it up in central FL, I found out that it was too big to mount to my Softail. So I picked up the 2007 Police Road King (flhpi). Debi still accuses me of plotting that whole thing! I took the bike, sidecar and all mounting pieces to a sidecar guru down in TX. It is called Texas Sidecar Co. He installed and lined it up for me. This one has the electric lean so I can adjust as I ride. H&D Cycles installed a reverse on it last year and did all the servicing on it. Ken Wheeler down at Phantom Paint & Performance (Foley) painted the sidecar to match the bike and also painted my new bat wing stereo fairing last year.
The police models make good "tugs" for a sidecar and is designed for sidecar use. It has the larger 103" motor, heavy duty everything, and 6 speed. I can cruise down the interstate at about 75 mph. Pulling a sidecar makes the gas mileage suck but that is OK. I had a 2 inch receiver installed on the sidecar frame in the middle between bike and sidecar. I can put any size ball in there if I want. Have not found a trailer I want to pull yet so we just use one of those cargo racks that slip in to the receiver hitch. So far it is all we need. It has a huge trunk. We loaded 400 pounds of horse feed in there one time. There are 12vdc outlets inside that Debi plugs her fan into, and heated blanket when she wants. It is fully convertible with a top and windows.
People often ask me how it handles compared to a solo bike...I tell them pretty much like going from a sports car to a dump truck. It will help you build your arms up as you no longer ride the bike, you drive it. Sidecars are not for everyone....you usually either love them or hate them with very little in between. I have always loved them! This is my 4th sidecar rig. the other 3 were old BMW's.
