Slowly lift 12 oz bear cans until you feel like you can move up to 16oz cans. When you get to that. You can move up to the heavier bottles. LOL. Seriously. Best of luck to you. Lord know I could loose a couple of pounds. Just start off easy and work your way up. Eat right. And ease up on the beer. LOL

You don't need fancy equipement or even lots of stuff, for that matter. Just get some good hand weights and maybe a bench set. Start slow and low. Go for the burn but never into "pain". Up your reps each week. Low weights, high reps builds strength. High weights, low reps builds bulk.
The best investment (bought thru Amazon.com) I've ever made was a Bowflex home gym. Word of advice, upgrade the weight limit. I found the standard 210lb max wasn't enough, at least for my legs.
I can make suggestions for working specific muscle groups if you need me to.

I ain't 40, but the best advice I can give is what you don't want to hear. Beer must go.. Try some wine.. Walk to the store for it. Walking is something we don't do enough of these days. Work out with some free weights after the walk. Put some protein in yeah after that. Not red meat. Grilled chicken or some tuna fish.
If you got a nice trail to hike or walk do it. That with not drinking beer will make a big differents. Is life worth living without beer? Let me know.

Re: any weight lifters out there
Life without booze for over 25 years now .. Very doable ..
Tell ya sumpthin' else is very doable , no weights required , and it works cause I did it ..
I'm 6'0" give or take a hair , and for years I hung around 205-220 and was comfy there , about two years ago I slowly started shooting up .. In June when I went for my biannual DOT physical , Doc went ballistic , I was 255 dressed , I went ballistic ..
He gave me a heart patients diet , and I lost 40 pounds in a couple months .. I'm not "on it" now , and yeah I fudge a bit here and there , but I maintain between 210-220 , tho' I really wanna get under 200 ..
Stay way from sweet tea and soda .. Drink water .. Eat less .. This diet , if you want it , I will send you a copy , it works believe me it works ..
But you gotta want to do it .. Your stomach will shrink , and as long as you dont over do it , it will not take near as much food to fill you up ..
Always wanted a BowFlex ..

Yes. Very doable. I have also been without for over 20 yrs. But I'm still fat. I hang right at 225. I guess most of us need a diet of some kind. But I cant give up sweet tea. THAT is my booze.

Re: any weight lifters out there
Miss G knows what she's talking about . I used to lift weights alot . Low weights , high reps to lose weight . heavy weighs , low reps to bulk up . To start use a weight that you can do 3 sets of 10 with fairly easy . Kurls , bench press, shoulder shrugs ,triceps press. Work legs following day.

Not buying any of that! Beer, women and motorcycles! Just not always in that order!

Boy.... you people with no bad habits!!!!
One day in the distant future you will be laying in a hospital bed wondering what you are dying from. The rest of us (smokers, drinkers, overweight etc) When we are in that position at least we will know what we are dying from.
Having said all that... The wife and I need to lose SEVERAL pounds each. I have lost 11 pounds since Christmas. 6'1" and now at 248, 28 more to go.

Way to go Jughead!
4 yrs ago I lost 79lbs. Long story short....my husband died and I had a year long pity party. When I was done, I'd packed on 65lbs back on. That was a little over a year ago and I've lost 68lbs. Strictly diet and exercise. I can be done.

I decided to do that nutrisystem thing last year...after two months...I lost 29 pounds......however...over the course of the following year.....I found 20 of those 29 I had lost!
Re: any weight lifters out there
Strange how that weight seems to "find" us so easy but leaves kicking and screaming.

I forgot to mention, on a normal day, I eat 5-6 times. Generally, something goes down the neck every couple of hours. Keeps me from gorging myself at any one meal.
